I think a lot of people have a pretty narrow view of Utah. In reality, this is one of the most diverse states out there, with every kind of backdrop for your wedding. We have it all, from a number of jaw-dropping National Parks to blooming city scenes. In fact, the flexibility is one of the many things that make it so special. You’ll find all kinds of weather, options for every budget, and tons of things to do throughout your wedding weekend. It’s also incredibly welcoming to all people, including those within the LGBTQ+ community!
When to Have Your Destination Wedding in Utah
Utah is a mostly arid state that experiences four distinct seasons. The weather might vary a bit from town to town, so you might want to check your destination of choice ahead of time. Here’s what you can typically expect throughout the year.
Winter: The chilly season kicks off each December and lasts until February. During this time, you’ll experience freezing temps as well as tons of snow. During this season, the state becomes a favorite for people looking for thrills on the slopes. Mountain towns like Park City and Provo tend to fill up with skiers, which means you might have to deal with larger crowds during your wedding weekend.
Spring: While the beginning of this season might be a little chilly, the skiers start to clear out, and most slopes end operations around April. The Spring Utah weather is much nicer for a destination wedding, but it can still be inconsistent. If you choose a wedding during this season, you’ll need to be flexible!
Summer: From June through August, Utah becomes pretty hot and arid with temps that sometimes soar above 100. It can especially be brutal in Southern Utah around the National Parks. Bring lots of water and plan for early morning or late evening celebrations if you want to be outside.
Fall: Autumn is particularly lovely with transforming trees and dropping temperatures. The summer crowd is gone, and the skiers still have a few weeks before they head out. Plus, the rain isn’t nearly as frequent as it is in spring. It might be harder to predict the weather, but trust me, this season is gorgeous all across the state!
Where to Get Married in Utah
Now comes the hardest decision: where to have your Utah destination wedding. You’ll have a ton of options! It just depends on your style.
- Moab: As a Moab photographer, I’m a little biased, but this is one of the best spots in the state. You’re right next to Canyonlands and Arches, and you’ll have state parks like Dead Horse. This is the best spot for adventurers!
- Salt Lake: Salt Lake gives you tons of accommodations, including indoor/outdoor venues, lodging, and food. It’s a fabulous option for those looking for something a bit more urban. You’ll also be close to the Bonneville Salt Flats!
- Provo: This is one of the best spots to take in the mountains! This area gets snowy throughout winter and green during the summer. Plus, the hotels are top-notch!
- Park City: Located in Northern Utah, Park City is a resort destination perfect for luxury mountain weddings. You will also be just an hour away from the Utah International Airport.
