As a Moab elopement photographer, I love working with couples to plan their National Park weddings. Unfortunately, there are some limitations that go along with it. For example, the parks get crowded, and there’s no way to block people from your site. Plus, reserving a spot can be pretty competitive. While Corona Arch is still public land through the Bureau of Land Management, it doesn’t get nearly the same amount of traffic, especially since the hike can be pretty difficult. Plus, it’s incredibly affordable! All you need is a $150 special use permit from the BLM, as well as your marriage license. With this spot, you can get the same gorgeous views as Arches minus all the headaches. It’s an ideal spot for quiet, secluded elopements. Oh, and the stargazing up here? Unmatched!
How To Get to There
In order to get to Corona Arch, bring your hiking shoes along for your elopement because you are going to need them! The location is about 25 minutes away from Moab along Potash Road. Once you park, it’s time to explore! The hike features a 3-mile round-trip trail that will take you out to the arch. The journey itself isn’t that strenuous. You’ll have to deal with moderate elevation and uneven surfaces. To actually get to the arch, you will use the ladder that will take you up to some of the best views in the state!
Things to Think About With Your Elopement
There are a few things to keep in mind while planning your elopement at Corona Arch. For starters, it’s not the most accessible trail. Because of the ladder, a lot of older people, as well as those with disabilities, might struggle to reach the site. It’s also not dog-friendly. While you can take a few people along with you, Corona Arch tends to be ideal for private ceremonies with just a few people. Another thing is that, for better or worse, it’s a pretty secluded spot. If you plan on holding your elopement in several different places, you are going to be pretty limited with your options. Lastly, the area surrounding the arch does not get cell phone service. Be sure to plan accordingly and download any necessary maps ahead of time so you don’t get lost!
